The Grant cycle: how it works

Each year on September 1, online applications are available from the Mass Cultural Council for LCC applicants via www.mass-culture.org.

2025 Update

The  Scituate Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 cultural councils  serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. This is the  largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, supporting  thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences, and  humanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual  appropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency,  which then allocates funds to each community. Decisions  about which local activities to support are made entirely at the  community level by Scituate residents who volunteer as members of the  Cultural Council.

At a public meeting held in November 2024, the Scituate Cultural Council reviewed 44  grant applications requesting $38,800 in funds -- the highest numbers in recent years. Based on the annual allocation from the Commonwealth and unexpended funds from previous years, the Council was able to award -- grants totaling $-,---, generating a diverse portfolio of projects to unfold throughout the year.

Many thanks to all who applied!

Important Dates

Some highlights of the online application system include:

  •  Applications are accepted through mid-October, for the fiscal year that includes programs that occur from July 1 of the current year through December 31 of the following year.
  • Applicants will complete their forms online and upload any required supplemental materials by the application deadline.
  • By November 1, online submissions are collated by the Mass Cultural Council for each LCC, then delivered to LCC members in the form of a PDF panel book. Key data points from the online submissions are imported into each LCC's online Annual Report to the Mass Cultural Council to alleviate the burden of entering application data.
  • Between November 1 and December 30, councils hold grant cycle voting meetings to make decisions on applications and send denial letters.
  • By January 15, councils will have completed their online Annual Report. Because the application data has already been entered, you will only have to enter decisions for each of the applications submitted online. Once the council submits their online Annual Report,  approval letters are sent before 1/30
